Bohemian National Home and New Detroit Sounds is proud to present The 3rd Annual Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music on May 30 & 31 at Bohemian National Home in Detroit. This two day festival showcases the finest in free jazz, improvisation and new music from around the world and right here in Detroit.  In addition, we'll have food available from two Detroit culinary institutions, Slows Bar BQ and Avalon International Breads, as well as a CD mart from Stormy Records.

This year's line-up includes artists at the forefront of creative music: The Matthew Shipp Trio, Sabir Mateen Ensemble, The Andrew Lamb Trio, Ellery Eskelin and Sylvie Courvoisier, EDGE and many more. We will also featuring a headlining set by Fred Anderson, one of Chicago's most influential saxophonists, in his first Detroit appearance that anyone can remember. He'll be supported by a cast of premiere Detroit musicians- Skeeter Shelton, Ali Allen Colding and the return of native son Hakim Jami. For the first time, the festival will feature an improvisation workshop conducted by Tatsuya Nakatani, whoise amazing percussion playing has been preserved for posterity by The Smithsonian.

Bohemian National Home is a grass-roots, artist run venue that presents the finest in living arts in all mediums. A festival of this scope would not be possible without the contributions of our local sponsors:

Robert Loomis and Assoc., Pat Frisco, Niraj Ganatra, Stormy Records, Barberella, Avalon International Breads, Modati.com, International Minute Press (now@ 450 W. Fort), Car City Records, Slows Bar BQ, Cass Cafe and The Corktown Inn. Corktown Inn will also help contribute $15 to the festival for every room rented, so mention Bohemian National Home if you book a room there.
