Renowned trumpet player Marcus Belgrave , accompanied by Clarinetist Charlie Gabriel , singer Joan Belgrave and a five-piece Band return to Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus, Smith Theatre to pay a Tribute to Louis Armstrong and the music of New Orleans. The two - Hour program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the campus' Smith Theatre. Admission is $20. Hosted by The Optimist Club of Central Detroit.
The event will feature traditional jazz, swing, and classic standards. Charles Gabriel's clarinet interpretations and vocals bring a direct connection to the pure New Orleans style of music, while Belgrave adds trumpet styling that embody a lyricism and inventiveness rarely encountered in Dixieland Jazz. Vocalist Joan Belgrave captures the spirit of the many singers that worked with Armstrong including Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington and Billy Holiday.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at any OCC Campus Bookstore or order by phone 248-341-2270 or on the website at http://www.oaklandcc.edu/entertainment
